Preparing to hit the headlines
by
Robert Anderson
on Sat 07 Jan 2012 10:13 GMT
Preparing to hit the headlines in 2012 It’s that time of
year when most of us muse on what we’ve done the past 12 months. At the risk of
self-praise - we’re pretty proud of our achievements in 2011. With its debut
Asian show surpassing all expectations last month and six supercar world
premiere launches in our pocket at the April Monaco show - Top Marques is pretty
satisfied that we did our bit for the supercar industry – not to mention the
successes in the haute horlogerie, superboats and luxury domains that
the exclusive show encompasses. As we speak the leading supercar engineers
are back to the R&D drawing boards with their vision for the next generation
of high performance cars; many of our car manufacturers who exhibited at Top
Marques Macau were inspired by the highly evolved tastes for technology and
innovation of the Chinese buyers. Some are ahead of the game with Roding
Automobile ready with a world premiere from Germany. As for Top Marques
Monaco, spurred on by our founder Lawrie Lewis, the show continues to reach for
higher ground and the team looks forward to spearheading the car industry into
new territory in 2012. Ready and waiting is the use of a closed section of the
Monaco Grand Prix circuit for test drives of the most technically advanced and
superior automobiles. Among the supercar manufacturers confirmed for the April
2012 show are Aston Martin, Fisker, GTA Motor, Hamann, Identity Cars, Jaguar,
Noble, Pagani, Roding Automobile and Top Car. Car makers are rising to the
challenge of producing cleaner and more efficient vehicles while balancing the
bespoke requests of discerning buyers. Last month we reported on an evolving
trend for customization of the best models on the market. So we’re happy that
DeLavilla - who specialise in the world of tailor-made motor cars and
custom-made accessories - have announced that they are on board for Top Marques
Monaco 2012. They join ranks with MTM - who focus on the Audi line in addition
to Lamborghini, Bentley and Porsche - and Hamann who customise models by BMW,
Porsche, Range Rover, Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Maserati, Aston Martin and
Mercedes-Benz.
For those seeking the ultimate in protection while not
cutting on any extravagant corners there is Dartz's Prombron (featured below)
tagged "The Car With Golden Wheels" and whose interior features bulletproof
nano-skin.
In addition to pondering on the past it’s time to plan for the
future. So think about booking your hotel to ensure your visit to the most
exclusive live supercar show in the world Top Marques Monaco 19-22 April
2012. It’s surely a wish come true for someone you know.

"Robin Hood" to open Cannes Film Festival
by
Robert Anderson
on Wed 31 Mar 2010 09:35 BST
PARIS, March 26, 2010 (AFP) - Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood" will open this year's Cannes film festival, the organisers said Friday, but the latest screen version of the legendary English outlaw will not be in competition.
The film, with a stellar cast that includes Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Max Von Sydow, Vanessa Redgrave and Lea Seydoux, will kick off the 63rd Cannes festival which runs from May 12 to 23.
"To revisit the legend, Ridley Scott has chosen Russell Crowe in a role previously brought to the screen by Errol Flynn, Sean Connery and even Kevin Costner," they said.
Scott, 72, is no stranger to the Croisette having won the 1977 Cannes Film Festival prize for his debut feature "The Duellists." In 1991 his road movie "Thelma and Louise" featured at the festival.
Visionary screen story-teller Tim Burton will head the jury at Cannes this year.

Daylight ahead-but be carefull
by
Corporate Club

Spring has arrived. During the past couple of months both nature and the world economy have felt the milder air. This may prompt some investors to drop the reins in a fit of spring playfulness and blindly jump on the risk bandwagon.
However there is good reason to keep both feet on the ground and not get carried away by the spring mood. The uncertainty surrounding global economic developments in the financial markets is tremendous.
The global economy may emerge from the crisis relatively quickly so that financial markets can continue to thrive – as they have over the past months – and return to the peak levels of 2008. However it can definitely not be ruled out that the spring mood will fizzle out and be replaced by new price declines for fear of a protracted economic crisis.
In our latest edition of Sydbank "investments" you can read our take on the future direction of the world economy and financial markets, from which investors are welcome to seek inspiration.
However due to the great uncertainty individual advice is more essential than ever. Therefore we recommend that investors stay in close contact with their advisers and evaluate their risk profiles. This may prove very useful when making investment decisions in the current unstable situation.

As part of our Festival de Cannes coverage our CCI members where invited to Quentin Tarantino's latest creation, helped with the financial backing of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and the rather surprising support of Brad Pitt.
This was Quentine's effort to cement his movie greatness with the backing of the biggest names in the movie industry, unfortunatley in trying to be all things to all men he loses the plot, This is Cannes after all and not Hollywood.
You have to be either artistic or go for the money, In this effort he falls between two stools.

Dynamic Recovery
by
Corporate Club
on Sun 15 Mar 2009 15:10 GMT
The great economists/academics, the so called experts all of whom failed to see the downturn are now predicting at best a long term recession, the drop in interest rates and government financial intervention in both the USA & UK the leading service based economies is unprecedented and CCI predict will almost certainly lead to a quicker than predicted recovery which hopefully this time will not lead to a lending/leverage frenzy. CCI have already seen in the last few months an upturn as regards business/deals in comparison with the second half of 2008. We predict that the new globalized based economy and the measures taken by governments worldwide will lead to a an earlier and much more dynamic recovery than expected.

Luxury Travel & The Global Economic Crisis
by
Corporate Club
on Thu 13 Nov 2008 12:52 GMT
As the global economy struggles, stocks tumble and banks merge amid the most formidable financial crisis in years after Lehman Brothers filed for the biggest bankruptcy in history, the global luxury travel industry is having to work even harder to keep to its clients’ demanding standards.
Yet, despite the major economic challenges facing UK and US consumers throughout 2008, it appears that the luxury travel industry continues to thrive.
Indeed, many see the current downturn as an opportunity for the upmarket travel agent to focus on their key clients. Matthew Upchurch, CEO of influential travel network Virtuoso is one; in his latest column in Luxury Travel (August/September issue, www.luxurytravelmagazine.co.uk), he says that the “new challenge facing us is how to build relationships that people are willing to pay for, particularly in a period of economic slowdown.”
In selling the value of the relationship, it’s key that travel professionals serve the affluent, not the rich, he argues, as there is a vast mindset difference between the two groups. The former have trusted advisers, professionals with whom they collaborate and pay for advice and wisdom; “you are part of a team, appreciated, respected and an expert in lifestyle.” The rich, however, may view fees as the cost of doing business, “thereby making you expendable.”
Some savvy travel providers are making positive changes to meet consumer demands. For example, Rothschild Safaris, a travel company specializing in bespoke African safaris, continues to send clients to Africa on luxury safaris, but timing and budget now play a more prominent role more than ever before. "Throughout 2008 we have continued to send our clients on custom African safaris, however budget was more of a consideration during the planning process," said Leora Rothschild, president of Rothschild Safaris.
"When planning luxury safaris, we've had to be a little more creative regarding transport and accommodations. We are mixing the very high-end properties in Southern Africa with more intimate four-star properties and increasingly we are rearranging itineraries to make use of scheduled flights vs. private charters,” she adds.
Additionally, the company says it is booking significantly more last-minute travel to Africa than ever before. “Historically, our clients planned safaris at least 12 months in advance, but it's not uncommon to receive inquiries only two months in advance these days. Our luxury travel clientele rely on our first hand knowledge now more than ever as we plan these custom African safaris." Perhaps signalling that today’s luxury travellers are in need of a little relaxation and more of a break from the depressing economic news, Rothschild safaris has seen an increase in "Bush and Beach" custom African safaris for 2009. While the big game of Africa has always been the main attraction, Rothschild Safaris is increasingly incorporating beaches such as the Lamu archipelago in Kenya, the Seychelles and Zanzibar.

Corporate Club International recently attended the ILTM conference held in Cannes, you will find below extracts of the special ILTM report, also attached in a download format is the ILTM report in full.
The luxury traveller
Who are the luxury, high-end travellers? And how can they be identified? The latest edition of the annual World Wealth Report from Merrill Lynch and Capgemini, puts the number of High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs)1 worldwide at 9.5 million in 2006 (+8.3% over the level recorded in 2005). The total assets of these HNWIs, meanwhile, are estimated at US$37.2 trillion (+11.4%).
The 2007 report shows that global wealth has continued to become more concentrated – a trend seen over the eleven years since the first World Wealth Report was published, with the assets of the world’s wealthiest individuals accumulating at a much faster rate than the growth of the overall HNWI population. The Middle East is the notable exception.
The wealth gains of HNWIs outpaced the growth in the numbers of HNWIs by more than three percentage points in 2006. Gains were particularly strong in Latin America, Africa and Asia Pacific, where 2006 HNWI wealth grew by 23.2%, 14.0% and 10.5%, respectively, thanks to record prices in the commodities industries that flourish in these regions. In the Middle East, total HNWI wealth grew by 11.7% in 2006, while the overall HNWI population grew by 11.9%, which suggests a slight dispersion of wealth in this part of the world.
World wealth is largely driven by the Ultra-HNWIs
The continued growth of HNWI wealth has largely been driven by the world’s wealthiest individuals, according to Merrill Lynch/Capgemini – the Ultra-HNWIs2. In 2006, the number of Ultra-HNWIs grew by 11.3% to total 94,970. Total accumulated wealth for this elite group also increased last year, by an impressive 16.8%, to US$13.1 trillion – around 30% of the global total – another sign that world wealth is rapidly consolidating among this ultra-wealthy segment.
The developed world continues to dominate the ranks of the world’s rich. Some two thirds (64%) of HNWIs live in the USA, Japan, Germany, the UK, or France, with 30% in the USA alone.

Corporate/Private jet boom
by
Corporate Club
on Wed 24 Oct 2007 21:56 BST
The corporate private-jet boom is soaring to new heights with Honeywell, the American aerospace group that is a key supplier, saying orders are up 100% and forecasting record sales for the next decade.
“Industry growth has moved into unparalleled territory,” said Rob Wilson, president of business and general aviation at Honeywell Aerospace, which makes engines and avionics for business jets. He expects deliveries of business jets to exceed 1,000 this year for the first time, up from 861 aircraft delivered last year.
Manufacturers in the first half of this year achieved more than 900 orders, 100% up on the same period last year, and Honeywell forecasts that 14,000 aircraft equivalent to the world’s entire fleet today will be delivered in the next decade. That market will be worth $233 billion (£114 billion).
Such is the demand for large, long-range jets like the Dassault Falcon 7X and Bombardier Global Express that there are delays of up to six years for delivery.
Honeywell reported a solid base of demand from fractional ownership companies like NetJets, but said its total share of sales would fall because of high demand from traditional business operators and start-up air-taxi firms.
